The Lordship of Jesus

Richard Roberts

Jesus wants to be the Lord of your life. The definition of the word Lord means owner, chief, governor, or highest authority. Lord indicates position, complete control, and best of all, master. It is a title that has an implied pledge of obedience.

For Jesus to be truly your Lord, it takes an invitation by you, asking Him into your heart. And He must be Lord over every area of your being: spirit, mind, will, emotions, and body. This means He is Lord over your priorities.

Matthew 6:33 NKJV says, Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. When you get your priorities straight and give God first place, He can give you the things you need. Everything else, although important, comes after Him.

Another concern that must give way to Christ’s Lordship is social standing. Jesus said, “Anyone who wants to be a leader among you must be a servant. Your attitude must be like My own, for I, the Messiah, did not come to be served but to serve.” (See Matthew 20:26-28.)

If you want to have social standing, be a servant. When you serve, it’s a seed you’re sowing, and God elevates your social standing as you serve others. The key to the reality of day-to-day living under the Lordship of Jesus is summed up in two words: obedience and submission.

If you will put your faith and trust in Jesus, making Him the Lord of your life, He will guide you, and you’ll never regret it. You may not know where you’re going every step, but that’s all right¾so long as He is in charge and truly the Lord of your life.
