From the archives of Evelyn Roberts

Years ago, when Oral was holding a meeting in Chanute, Kansas, an elderly blind man was in the healing line and when he got to Oral, Oral asked him, “What are you doing up here?” He said, “I don’t know.”

So Oral asked another question, “Well, why did you come?” He said, “Oh, some people just persuaded me to come and I came with them.”

Oral said, “Well, do you believe God will heal you of your blindness?” The man said, “No, I don’t believe a word of it.”

He said, “Well, since I’m up here, you’re up here, and I believe God can heal you, would you mind if I had a little prayer for you?” The man said, “Well, I don’t think it will do any good, but go ahead and pray for me if you want to.”

Oral prayed for him and the man went his way as blind as when he arrived.

The next morning, very early, a pastor knocked on the door of our hotel room and said, “Brother Roberts, do you remember the old blind gentlemen you prayed for last night, the one without any faith?”

Oral said, “Yes, I remember.” The pastor went on, “Well, that man got up this morning and saw the sunrise!”

Sometimes God will sovereignly override a person’s will to give them something that is for their benefit. He’ll act off the faith of someone else who is believing for their miracle. That’s what happened when four men brought their friend to Jesus one day and let him down through the roof of the house because they couldn’t get through the press of the crowd. The Bible says, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, ‘Son, thy sins be forgiven thee … Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house’” (Mark 2:5 &11). The Bible doesn’t say the miracle happened when Jesus saw the faith of the sick man. No, it says when Jesus saw their faith ― the faith of the four men who carried him on a pallet and pulled the roof off and dropped him down to Jesus.

Are you believing for a miracle in the life of someone you love today? Don’t give up!
