God’s Word is life! Ponder for a few minutes these words of wisdom from Proverbs 4:20-23 NKJV: Give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them [God’s words] depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
Why does God want you to guard your heart? Because, it is with your heart that you believe. If negative words are all you hear, that’s what you begin to believe. And it’s not just that your heart believes it – Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34 NKJV). Whatever you believe will come out of your mouth. Your words reflect what is in your heart.
Words are powerful! Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue. When we realize that what we say is often a self-fulfilling prophecy, we can see how important it is to fill our hearts and minds with words from God Himself, for His words are life!
