Lindsay Roberts – First of two parts
I have discovered that God loves us, God approves of us, God likes us, and God sent His Son for us. There are all kinds of Scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, where God mentions that He made us in His own image, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the Cross for us, He came to give us life, and life more abundantly, He made us the head and not the tail, we are to be above and not below, and that we are His own special creation!
We are God’s children; He calls us “beloved.” And yet, either by our upbringing, by our background, by the way someone taught us in the home, by the way someone taught us in school — some of those feelings can make us feel so put down that we don’t even recognize who we are to ourselves, let alone who we are in Jesus Christ.
The more I’ve had the privilege of dealing with women and being with women, I’ve found that many women don’t particularly approve of themselves, and the most money women spend on themselves is for makeup.
I came from a family that said, “You can do it, you can make it, you can, you will, you always will be able to; with God’s help, you can.” I grew up in an atmosphere where your “balloon never lands.” You have high hopes. All things are possible. And this is how I tried to bring up my children.
But I’ve learned that it’s not necessarily the way all people have been trained, and that even people who accept Christ at any early age, as well as those who accept Christ later on in their lives, don’t always live up to their full potential. This is because no matter what potential Christ has put in them, if they can’t get over what they think is in them, it will never work.
The Bible talks about something that I have studied, called “soul ties.” That means someone can spiritually or emotionally attach themselves to you — abuse you, or do something to you in the course of your lifetime. And if you never break loose from that negative influence, it will tie itself to you and can affect every single decision you make.
I encourage you today to ask God for wisdom and to ask the Holy Spirit for help in making every effort to free yourself of any negative emotions that have attached themselves to you. Then, you can be free in Christ Jesus (John 8:36).
