The true meaning of Christmas can easily get lost in the secularism of the Christmas season. Angels are dismissed as nonexistent, children clamor to get as many new toys as possible, and many adults look to the bottle for their Christmas cheer. Too often, Christ is the forgotten Man at Christmas. Where He is not forgotten, He’s often obscured. And where He is not obscured, He’s often thought of only as a great teacher and prophet, not the Savior of the world.
But Isaiah 9:6 tells us, Unto us a child is born …his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God…The Prince of Peace. Jesus is the Christ, Son of the living God. He is our mighty Savior, our glorious Healer. He is closer than the breath in our nostrils. And in the midst of the activities of the holiday season, angels are near, heaven is bending low, and He is still here!
Jesus is my Lord today. When I was dying, He put health back in my lungs riddled with tuberculosis. He restored to my stammering tongue the ability to talk. He took sin out of my soul and gave me a new birth, a new life. In my heart and in the hearts of those who really know Him, He is not the forgotten Man, not the obscured Man, but our Healer, our Deliverer, our very life. He is our Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11 NKJV).
