From the archives of Oral Roberts – Second of three parts
Evelyn had not been able to attend the prayer meeting that night, and when I arrived home, she took one look at me and said, “Oral, you’ve done something. What was it?” When I told her I’d given our week’s salary, she said, “Honey, what am I going to use for groceries this Saturday? I don’t have any money at all.”
“Honey,” I said, “you told me you were going home to your mama if I didn’t have a parsonage or a place for us to live. I talked to God, and He told me to give the $55. That was my depth.”
It was a cold winter Oklahoma night. We were in a little bedroom with no heat, and it was a cold bed the rest of the night!
Early the next morning there was a knock on the door. I opened the door to see a prosperous wheat farmer who had been a member of our congregation before I became their pastor. He had left the church and come back because he had heard of this young preacher, Oral Roberts. He had given his heart to God and had become a very good friend of mine. He said, “Brother Roberts, could I come in a minute? I’m sorry to wake you up at 4 o’clock in the morning, but I was in church tonight when you gave your $55 weekly salary.”
“After I drove back to my farm, I tried, but I couldn’t sleep. So I got up, went out into the yard, and dug up some money.” Then he handed me seven $100 bills!
God Almighty works in strange ways, but He knows what He is doing. If you will put something in and give Him something to work with God will multiply it back to you, and you will wonder about the miracle of it the rest of your life!
