A Spiritual Workout

Lindsay Roberts

Have you ever felt that your faith wasn’t working? You may even know these Scriptures: God has dealt to each one a measure of faith (Romans 12:3 NKJV), and Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17 NKJV), but you still feel your faith is lacking.

Maybe your faith needs more “exercise.”

Think of it this way:  we’re all created with the same number of bones and muscles, but we aren’t all the same when it comes to physical strength. Some people exercise and work out, and their muscles become more developed and stronger than those who don’t exercise.

It’s the same with our faith. We’ve each been given a measure of faith, but to build up and strengthen our faith we need to exercise and develop our spiritual muscles. Here’s a spiritual workout plan to try:

Read the Bible aloud. To stand firm against the enemy, you have to know the authority the Bible gives you. The Word says to resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7 NIV). Tell the devil, “Listen to what I’ve got to say to you,” and begin to read God’s Word aloud.

Dig into the Word of God. Look in your Bible’s concordance and find every Scripture that has the word faith in it. Look up those Scriptures and declare them as your Bible rights every day.

Strong, developed muscles don’t happen by themselves, it takes work and determination to build them up. A strong, developed faith can’t grow on its own, either. If you feel your faith isn’t strong enough, maybe it’s time to begin a spiritual workout!
