I believe God sends us friends. They are gifts from Him. How do you know if you have a true friend? A true friend stands by you, lifts you up, and encourages you.
I’m thinking of one particular time when I was extremely overworked. I started to feel the stress of having too much to do and not enough time to do it. God knew just what I needed, and He sent one of my dear friends to lift me up.
We sat in my car in the driveway, and she listened to my troubles. Then she started to give me words of encouragement from the Word. She wouldn’t let me get out of the car until I listened to her. She didn’t gripe or complain. Instead, she brought balance to my life by feeding my soul—my mind, will, and emotions, which is certainly where I needed the help—with positive things from the Bible. She did just the right thing, because the Woman of God is a stabilizing force that brings everything into balance in our lives.
Our Lord was not noted for having friends but for being a friend. He is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He is the One who enters into all of life’s experiences with us, who strengthens us when we are tired, who rejoices with us when we are happy, who comforts us and encourages us when disappointments come.
Jesus is your Savior, but He longs to be your friend as well. Talk to Him every day, and look to Him to speak words of life and comfort to you, to bring strength and stability through His Word.
