Come Just As You Are

Richard RobertsFourth of four parts

We sing the old-time gospel song, “What can wash away my sins? What can make me whole again?” The answer comes back from Mount Calvary’s hill, “Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

Jesus said to the man with the unclean spirit, “What is your name?” And the devil replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” But Jesus commanded the demons in the authority of His name to go, and they went into a herd of pigs nearby!

Then the herdsmen who had watched the pigs run violently down the side of the hill and throw themselves into the sea and drown went running throughout the countryside and into the cities and began to publish the report of what Jesus Christ has done.

Crowds began to follow Jesus and seek Him out. They arrived and found Jesus with the formerly demon-possessed man, who, when he had lost his mind, had taken off all his clothes. Let Hollywood hear that!

Today people are used to turning on the television and seeing things flying around the room and people foaming at the mouth. They think the secular world is sane and that we are insane because we serve God. The world mocks and laughs at us as we praise God and sing wonderful songs.

The good news is that when you repent — and repentance means to change your mind — you elevate your spirit back over your mind the way God created you. You cannot forgive sin; only God can forgive sin. But only you can change your mind. God will not change your mind, but He can change your heart.

Only God can break your chains. When satan reminds you of your past and you feel unworthy to be received by the Lord Jesus Christ, remember that Jesus went to the Cross for YOU. He cut a new covenant in His shed blood for YOU. His back was striped for YOU. The only way the chains of sin can be broken is by surrendering your life to Jesus. And…You can come just as you are!
