Convincement: What Is It?

Richard Roberts

Do you know what convincement is? I’m not even sure it’s a word, but if it isn’t, it should be! I believe convincement means knowing that you’re saved. I mean, you know that you know that you know that you’re saved. How do you know? Because you have convincement. The proof of your salvation is not by sensation; it’s by Scripture. The Bible is clear that certain evidence will be manifest. When that knowing comes in you, some of the things you used to do you won’t do anymore. Some of the things you used to say you won’t say anymore. You became convinced of your salvation. That’s convincement!

When that happens, there are several things that will occur. First, there will be an infallible witness inside you. First John 5:10, He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself. Second, you will experience a family of God relationship (see 1 John 3:14.) Three, there will be a new image. People are always looking for new image makers, aren’t they? Do you want a new image? Come to Christ. He’ll give you one! He will give you the image that He wants you to have. It’s better than any image maker in Hollywood or New York can give you. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Fourth, there will be a response of victory. First John 5:4 says, For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

If you want convincement in your life, ask God to come into your heart. Then you will have the infallible witness inside you; you will experience a family of God relationship; you will have a new image; and there will be a response of victory in your life!
