Delight Yourself in the Lord

Lindsay Roberts

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Whatever you put in your heart―that is what you are going to say. It’s like a lemon. What do you get when you squeeze a lemon? You get whatever is on the inside! What do you get when you are squeezed? Whatever it is that you’ve put inside you. If you’ve put in fear, if you’ve put in doubt, if you’ve put in condemnation, if you’ve put in guilt ― when the devil attacks you, that is what is going to come out.

If you hide God’s Word in your heart ― you pour it into your being, and you mediate on it day and night ― the minute the devil comes to squeeze you, what do you think is going to come out? The Word of God! Begin to say to the devil, “Devil, it is written.” Jesus was tempted, and He said, “Satan, it is written” (Luke 4:8).

So many people want what God has for them, but they don’t do what God tells them to do. The Scripture says to delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart (see Psalm 37:4). A friend of mine said that she once went about quoting that to God. She began to list the desires of her heart ― to name them ― and the Lord said to her, “You know My part really well. What about your part?”

Delight yourself in the Lord; then He will give you the desires of your heart. Don’t forget to do your part first; then God will do His part!

God is faithful, and He is just. He will cleanse us from sin, and He will forgive us from all unrighteousness. All we have to do is start with a little bit. The Bible teaches that little is much when God is in it. We take that little bit, and God multiplies it into more and more. He always does what He says in Ephesians 3:20… exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.
