Five Reasons Why I Know God Is a Good God

From the archives of Evelyn Roberts

One of the first things I heard my husband preach when he began the healing ministry was, “God is a good God.” I’d never heard anybody say that before, and I asked him, “Where did you get that, Oral? How do you know God is a good God?”

And Oral said, “Well, Evelyn, you know He’s a good God because He healed me from tuberculosis.” Yes, I knew that to be true. Down through the years I’ve also seen the Lord heal hundreds and hundreds of people through Oral’s ministry, as well as through Richard’s ministry. The healing miracles are strong evidence to me that God is a good God.

Oral also said, “Evelyn, you also know that the Lord has saved you, and He’s saved me.” Yes, I knew that to be true, too. God didn’t have to save us; we didn’t do anything to deserve it or to earn it. The Bible says that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). It is a good God Who saves us!

There are three more reasons why I believe God is a good God and they come straight from the Bible. You can’t get a better source than the Bible for what you believe. God said that He confirms His Word to us out of the mouths of several witnesses.

These three verses are witnesses to me that God is a good God:

John 10:10 says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” It is a good God Who comes to give us life, and not just ordinary life, but abundant life.

In James 1:17 we read: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” Everything we count as good in our lives comes from our good God! He’s the Creator of every blessing, the Author of every good word, the Giver of every miracle.

And finally, Matthew 7:11 gives us these words of Jesus, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven given good things to them that ask him?” God is a good God and it is His nature to give good gifts.

Let’s praise God for His goodness. Let’s praise Him for the good gifts He has given us and the good things He has done for us. And let’s believe God for something GOOD to come into our lives today.
