Richard Roberts – First of five parts
Do you know who you are in the Lord today? Do you know what the Lord is calling you to do?
Every thing and every person has a purpose in life. Purpose is what the Maker had in mind when He made you.
The purpose of your car is to be driven as transportation. The purpose of a piano is to be played. The purpose of a song is to be sung. The purpose of a sermon is to be preached. The purpose of a chair is to provide you with a seat. The purpose of laughter is to make your heart merry.
If you don’t know your purpose, you will walk through life with a permanent question mark on your face. You’ll wonder why you’re here. You’ll wonder if there really is a Heaven and if you’re going there.
The Apostle Paul was once a man named Saul before the Lord changed his name. Saul was an enemy of the Church, and even cheered on those who stoned Stephen to death. Then, one day while he was traveling to the city of Damascus in order to persecute the Christians there, he was struck to the ground by a bright light from Heaven, and a voice asked him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” (Acts 26:14) The light had blinded Saul’s eyes, but he cried out, “Who are you, Lord?” And Jesus replied, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.”
And then Jesus gave to Saul the purpose of his life: “Rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose” (Act 26:16). The rest of the story is that Paul’s life was transformed and he became a mighty man for the Lord.
If you are wondering what your purpose might be in life, there is only one Person Who can tell you with certainty, and that is the Lord. Ask Him to reveal your purpose to you.
