You have wonderful benefits as a Christian. Psalm 103:3–5 NKJV says that God forgives all your iniquities … heals all your diseases … redeems your life from destruction … crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies … [and] satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Although those benefits are yours, if you don’t know they exist, you can’t obtain them. It’s as if your spouse went to the mall at Christmastime and purchased gift certificates for you from all of your favorite stores. Once you received the certificates, you’d probably get to the mall as quickly as possible to pick up what was rightfully yours. After all, they’d already been paid for!
However, if you didn’t know that your spouse had purchased those gift certificates, they would still exist and they would still be yours, but you wouldn’t receive anything from them because you failed to use them.
In a similar way, everything that God promises in His Word is rightfully yours because Jesus purchased them for you with His own blood which was shed on the Cross at Calvary. Your part now is to claim your benefits and use them to live the joyous abundant life He came to bring you (John 10:10).
