In Psalm 103, David gives us good instruction: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles’s” (Psalm 103:2˗5).
Apparently King David’s day wasn’t very different from today, with bad news all around. It seems everywhere we look — on the evening news, on many of the TV talk shows, in the newspapers — most of what we read or hear about is bad news.
The Bible says, “Don’t put your focus on the bad news. Instead, bless the Lord! Forget not all His benefits!”
To bless the Lord, means to praise Him…to exalt His name…to shout “Hallelujah!” To remember the Lord’s benefits means to count them, one by one.
It’s good news that God forgives our sins. Praise and thank Him today for being your Savior.
It’s good news that God heals us. Praise and thank Him for all the times in your life that He has healed you.
It’s good news that God keeps us from being destroyed by the devil. Praise and thank Him today for all the times you have known His protection or His deliverance from evil.
It’s good news that God blesses us with His tender mercies and love. Praise and thank Him today for the many good things He has done and is doing in your life.
It’s good news that God gives us everything we need so that our strength is renewed. Praise and thank Him for the provision and strength you are experiencing.
Friend, in a world filled with bad news, it’s good news that God takes care of us. Let’s keep our focus on Him and His benefits to us!
