God tells us in Malachi 3:10 to bring our tithes into the storehouse. He says, Prove me now herewith…if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And in verse 11 He says, I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes.
I believe there is a direct link there between our tithes and offerings being sown into the soil of the Gospel and having the devourer rebuked off our lives. I have no idea why God chose to connect the two, but He did. And if that’s God’s system, we want to stick with it! If you want God’s blessing, do it God’s way.
Luke 6:38 NKJV says, “Give, and it will be given to you.” In other words, if you have a need, plant a seed. Why did God say that? I don’t know, but that’s His system. He said in Genesis 8:22, While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest…shall not cease. That’s an eternal principle. I don’t know if God wanted to test seedtime or if He wanted to test our obedience. He does want to know if we will trust Him enough to release our treasure to Him, because what we are tied to determines who we are. Do we want to be tied to money or to obedience? If we do things God’s way, then He can watch over His Word to perform it.
If things aren’t working in our finances or if the blessings of God seem far away from us, we might want to stop and say, “Hey, wait a minute. Our system isn’t working. Let’s try God’s system!” As we release our faith and do things God’s way by releasing our tithes and offerings, He can open the windows of heaven to bless us just as He promised.
