Richard Roberts – Second of three parts
The Bible says, Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, as Paul told Timothy, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
For years, I have studied the gifts of the Spirit, and I have found that the gifts of the Spirit do not belong to any man or woman; they belong to the Holy Spirit. No one possesses the nine gifts of the Spirit. But the good news is, we have the Holy Spirit and, at His will, the Spirit can manifest these gifts through us.
I, Richard Roberts, do not have the gift of healing, nor do I have the gift of the word of knowledge. I have the Holy Spirit and, at His will, the Holy Spirit manifests the gifts of the Spirit through my life.
I was once being introduced to an orthopedic surgeon who was not a Christian. The Lord said in my spirit, “Ask him how long he’s had trouble with his wrist because he is about to give up his surgical practice.” So as instructed by the Lord, I said, “Sir, I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but I’m a Christian,” and then I gave him a two minute testimony in a sermonette. I continued, “There is a question that God is telling me to ask you. ‘What’s happened to your wrist? The Lord just told me that you’re about to give up your medical practice.’”
There was a dramatic pause before the doctor looked at me and asked, “How did you know? Yes, I am about to quit performing surgery because I don’t have the use of my wrist and fingers. I’m an orthopedic surgeon; that’s my work.” I then said, “Well, doctor, the Lord is telling me that He’s healing your wrist and fingers now!”
The doctor began to move his wrist and fingers, and a big smile came over his face. “What did you do?” he asked. I replied, “I just obeyed God. I just obeyed God!”
