I’d like to share several things with you about keeping on track with God. The Bible says in Proverbs 29:18 that where there is no vision, the people perish. “Keeping your vision” is another way to say keeping on track, and there are some basic ways to do that.
In the game of golf, as in life, there are basics. One basic in golf is that no matter how a golfer takes his club back before a swing — inside, straight, or outside — when he reaches the point of impact, every swing is the same.
In other words, when we get to a point in life where we have the opportunity to make an impact, there is a position that we must get into. And once we get into that position, we have to decide to stay on track. It’s said that in life there is no indecision. Either you decide or you decide not to decide. But once you make a decision, it’s simple.
I believe there are several ways to keep on track in life, and the first way that I do it is to keep myself focused on the Word of God, for it is alive, it’s full of power, it’s activating, and energizing. (See Hebrews 4:12 RSV.) I realize that I can’t feed others spiritually without first feeding myself. And the best way I know to do that is through the Word of God. That’s a basic in my life. I also have to sit under the ministry of others. This way I get fed, also.
In order for me to keep my vision and stay on track, I’ve got to stay in tune with the Word of God. I believe that’s true for all of our lives.
