I’d like to share several things with you about keeping on track with God. The Bible says in Proverbs 29:18, Where there is no vision, the people perish. “Keep your vision” is another way to say keep on track, and some ways to do that are basic.
In the game of golf, as in life, there are basics. One basic in golf is that no matter how a golfer takes his club back before a swing—inside, straight, or outside—when he reaches the point of impact, every swing is the same. It’s the same principle in tennis. At the point of impact, the swings are identical.
In other words, when we get to a point in life where we have the opportunity to make an impact, there is a position that we must get into. And once we get into that position, we have to decide to stay on track. It’s said that in life there is no indecision. You either decide, or you decide not to decide. But once you make a decision, it’s simple.
I believe there are several ways to keep on track in life, and the first way that I do it is to keep myself focused on the Word of God, for it’s alive, it’s full of power, it’s active, and energizing(see Hebrews 4:12 RSV). When I don’t spend time in the Word, I get in trouble. I also realize that I can’t constantly feed others spiritually without first feeding myself. And the best way I know to do that is through the Word of God. That’s a basic in my life. I also have to sit under the ministry of others. This way I get fed.
In order for me to keep my vision and stay on track, I’ve got to stay in tune with the Word of God. I believe that’s true for all of our lives.
