More times than I can count, when our girls were little, one of them would come to me so sleepy she could hardly hold her eyes open, so that I might pick her up and hold her tight and carry her up to bed. Even before her little head hit my shoulder, she was usually fast asleep.
That’s the very image that the New Testament has for our “faith” relationship with God.
The New Testament definition of faith is this: leaning your entire personality on God in complete trust and confidence. Faith isn’t some magical quality inside us. Faith is simply our leaning on God, with full confidence that He will pick us up and comfort us and hold us tight and carry us.
When we have a problem or the devil throws a bad situation or a bad circumstance our way, our response IN FAITH must be to lean over on God.
No matter how heavy the burden we are carrying, when we lean over onto Jesus He will bear the weight not only of our burden, but of our entire self!
Our prayer today can be that of the Psalmist, who wrote, O Lord my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; and deliver me (Psalm 7:1).
