One Heart and One Soul

From the archives of Oral Roberts

After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, the Bible says, “The multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul” (Acts 4:32).

They that believed on Jesus were of ONE HEART and ONE SOUL. If you take two pieces of steel and put them in the fire, they become one. They are welded together inseparably. They become one. In the same way, the early Christians were one in the Spirit. All races represented were one…there was no difference between them. There was complete integration in the early church. That’s how we are to be today…ONE in the Lord.

In Acts 1:8 the Bible also says, “Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me.”

The Christians in Jerusalem had unity of spirit, but this was not their only characteristic. They became witnesses for Christ. After they were filled with the Spirit, they began to take the Word where it really belongs…out in the streets where the people are. The most important moment of a church service is not the opening prayer, the choir singing, the offering, or the sermon…as important as those things are. It’s the benediction. It’s after you’ve heard God’s holy Word preached and you take that Word to others.

When we go from the church building and minister to people where they are, then we become the church. The Holy Spirit in us produces sensitivity to the needs of others so that we open our hearts to those who are hurting; to love them as Christ loves them. We then become channels for His love to flow through. This is the fruit of being one in the Lord!
