Put God in Charge

Lindsay RobertsSecond of three parts

When stress has a grip on your life, it’s time to get a grip on God and His Word and to put God in charge of your life. You begin to overcome stress when you make a move of faith, turn your problems over to God, and plug into His power through prayer. Now let’s look at steps four and five in this eight-step plan of action against stress.

Listen for a word from heaven. So often when we face a stressful situation, we get on the phone to talk to a friend and ask their advice… as if they had the answer! Pull yourself away from the noise of the world and turn your eyes toward heaven. God’s Word promises, Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21 NIV). What great news! The Lord Himself can tell you, “This is the way. Walk here.”

When stress closes in on you, get silent before God and let Him talk to you. Listen when He speaks. As you go through your daily routine, in all you do, be consciously listening for a Word from heaven.

Act on your faith. I’ve heard many people say, “I’m believing that God is going to get me out of this mess.” I’m totally in favor of declaring what you believe, but I encourage you to take it a step further, because faith without works is dead (James 2:26). All the faith in the world can die out if there is no corresponding action to operate the faith. When God gives you a word and you know you are to follow His instruction, there is no other option.
