What happened when King Jehoshaphat stood and issued this decree to his people, “Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper” (II Chronicles 20:20)? The people followed his order!
First, they began to sing and praise God, shouting, “Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever!” (II Chronicles 20:21) The Bible says that even as they sang, “the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten” (II Chronicles 20:22).
It was a prophet of God who told Jehoshaphat and all the people of Judah what they needed to do to win the battle. When they followed the words of the prophet, they saw a great victory. The Bible says that when Jehoshaphat and his people went to the place where the prophet told them to go, they “found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much” (II Chronicles 20:25). They came home not only with victory, but with an abundance of riches. The Bible says they “returned again to Jerusalem with joy” (verse 27).
Believe God and believe His prophets. Then expect to be established and expect to prosper.
