John the Baptist was standing in the waters of the river Jordan, baptizing people, saying, “There is a greater One coming, and I’m not even worthy to tie His shoes,” when suddenly the One he was talking about came walking up to the river. John recognized Jesus and said, “I should not be baptizing you. You should be baptizing me.”
Jesus said, “John, everything that has been prophesied must come to pass.” And John baptized Jesus. The Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, descended and landed upon Jesus. And a voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son; in whom I am well pleased (Matthew 3:17).
Matthew 11, beginning with verse 1, tells us that when Jesus had finished giving instructions to His twelve disciples, He went out to teach and preach in their cities.
Sometime later, John was in prison, and he spoke to several of his followers and said, “Would you find Jesus and ask Him, ‘Are you the one or do we look for another?”’ John was in prison, about to have his head cut off. He needed a fresh revelation of who Jesus was!
Jesus said to His disciples, “Go tell John about the miracles you have seen. The sick are healed, the blind see, the lepers are cleansed, and the dead are raised. And blessed is he who is not offended in me.” In other words, “Blessed is he who doesn’t doubt in his heart, but believes.”
Jesus said to us to have faith: For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. (Mark 11:23).
What Jesus said then is still true today. Your confession of faith makes this Scripture just as powerful right now as it was then! And Jesus continued in verse 24, saying, Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
