Wearing the Right Stuff

From the archives of Oral RobertsFifth of six parts

The fire raged. King Nebuchadnezzar stared at the three bold young Hebrew men ― Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego ― who had refused to bow and proclaim him as their god. And then the king shouted in his fury, “Heat the furnace seven times hotter and throw them in!” (See Daniel 3:19.)

Sometimes that happens to us in this life. When we stand against the devil, he may come back roaring seven times louder. That roar is his attempt to cause fear to strike our hearts and confusion to wrack our minds so that we begin to believe that this temptation ― or that sin, or that danger ― is indeed, seven times stronger or more threatening, and therefore, something we cannot possibly stand against. We may even find ourselves being bound and cast into what seems like the very jaws of the devil himself.

But look what happened! King Nebuchadnezzar ordered the most mighty men in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and to cast them into the furnace. And as they did, those mighty men of Nebuchadnezzar died from the heat that burst forth from the furnace.

Friend, Nebuchadnezzar’s men weren’t wearing the right stuff!

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, however, only had one thing burn when they hit the flames: the ropes that were binding them! You see, they were wearing an invisible shield of faith that could not be penetrated. They were wearing the full armor of God!

I encourage you to put on the full armor of God every day according to Ephesians 6:11. It cannot be penetrated!
