As Christians, each one of us has a unique calling from God on our lives. Yours is different from mine, and mine is different from yours. Your calling is the one God has for you, and it’s what you’re supposed to do in life. His plan may be different from what you expect, but you can be assured it is something good. In Jeremiah 29:11 NIV the Lord declares, I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Before I married Oral, I wanted to be a missionary. But God never would call me! You see, He had a different plan in mind for me. When Oral proposed to me, I know that God had planned and ordained for me to marry him.
The important thing is for us to be pliable in God’s hands. After I married Oral, I said to the Lord, “You know that I’ve always wanted to be a missionary. You never called me, and I guess You won’t call me now. So I’ll just have to be content to be a minister’s wife.”
Of course, I didn’t know then all that God intended to accomplish through Oral and me ― that we were going to go into all the world and preach the Gospel everywhere we went. I didn’t know that we would raise up Oral Roberts University with its thousands of young students who would take God’s message beyond us to the world!
I’m so glad I decided to submit to the plan God had for me. Although it was different from my own, I learned that you can be happy and satisfied wherever God puts you because you’re in the center of His will.
