point of contact

Taking action in faith

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

JAMES 2:17

One of the most powerful ways to help you get your faith connected with the Lord is through a point of contact.

What is a point of contact?

A point of contact is something you do. It’s an action you take, in faith, as a deliberate, tangible moment when you can say you released your faith to God for what you need. It’s like turning the key to start your car. When you do it, you expect something to happen. It helps you focus your faith on God and let go of any doubt.

Everybody has faith. The Bible says in Romans 12:3, God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. We each have the measure of faith God has given us. It doesn’t have to be great…or big…or powerful. You have all the faith you’re ever going to need. It’s not how much faith you have, it’s what you do with your faith that can make the difference.

You see, your faith has to be released before it can produce any results…it has to come out of you and go up to God as an act of your believing.

A point of contact can be many different things: a prayer, anointing oil, a prayer cloth, Holy Communion, a faith-filled letter… it’s simply a method we can use to reach out to God.

A few examples of a point of contact used in the Bible are:

Peter“They brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them” (Acts 5:15).

Paul“Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them” (Acts 19:12).

Jesus“They… brought to Him all who were sick, and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well” (Matthew 14:35˗36).

The point of contact is such a simple truth that it’s often been misunderstood. However, its use is simply symbolic of the healing touch of Jesus. The power to heal is not in the point of contact. It is Jesus who is the Healer.
