And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

In this Scripture setting, Moses had failed, and his failure was far from small. He had killed an Egyptian in an attempt to deliver God’s people out of slavery in his own strength. He had fled Egypt for his personal safety, and then on the backside of the desert, he had an encounter with God.
God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and told him He was going to send him to deliver His people. Moses looked at himself and his failures and asked, “Who am I?”
Have you ever asked God, “Who am I?” I have. I asked Him, “Who am I that I should begin a daily television show?” So many times we see our humanness and wonder who in the world we think we are to attempt the things God tells us to do. But we can do them through Christ who strengthens us (see Philippians 4:13). God assured Moses, Certainly I will be with thee (Exodus 3:12).
Those are great words for you and me!
Then Moses said to God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them (Exodus 3:13)? Moses wanted to know not only who he was, but also who God is. This is not unlike the situations people are in today. Most people don’t know who God is. But God Himself has answered the question. God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM (v. 14).
