Is this how you’d answer these questions: Are you pressured? Yes. Stressed? Very. Frustrated? On a regular basis. You can take charge of negative situations that attack you by using the Word of God. Here are eight steps to help you break the grip of stress:
Make the first move. If you need a pair of shoes, how do you get them? You make a move – you go to a shoe store. It’s the same when you’re under stress. You can do nothing, or you can say, “My God can help me. There’s nothing too hard for God (Jeremiah 32:27)!” This way you begin to take a step of faith toward your deliverance.
Turn your problems over to God. After taking that first step, enter into fellowship with God. Instead of dwelling on the problem, dwell on the Problem Solver. God has the power to remove your stress; so take your heavy load and turn it over to Him as Psalm 55:22 NLT says: Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. That doesn’t mean that you turn your burden over to God and then take it right back. You turn it over to God, trust His wisdom, and leave it with Him.
Plug into God’s power through prayer. Defeating stress requires more than wishful thinking. Your faith can’t be in a new finding, or the stock market, or in a medical report; those are stress-producers. Put your faith in God, who said, “I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6 NKJV). The Holy Spirit is always interceding on your behalf before the throne of God (Roman 8:26-27). You can join Him at any time by praying in the Spirit. His power to overcome stress is yours for the asking!
