The Bible teaches that God’s truth is always confirmed by two or more witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15 & 2 Corinthians 13:1). That includes God’s truth about your life and His will for you.
Seek confirmation for your actions and your decisions from the Word of God. First, go directly to God’s Word. See what God has to say about a particular subject or situation before you consult any person.
Seek out confirmation from others who believe the Word of God. It doesn’t make any sense to go to Goliath to get an accurate appraisal of David’s purpose in life. It doesn’t make any sense for you to consult a non-Christian about God’s will for your life either! If you are questioning whether an idea or a decision is part of God’s will for you, go to a Spirit-filled man or woman of God for advice. (If you need counseling for a problem in your personal life or in your family, go to a Christian counselor.)
Seek confirmation from the Holy Spirit. One time, the Lord gave me a word of knowledge about a healing in a person’s kidney, and my first thought was, “Well, that’s just my imagination.” Still, I felt the witness of the Holy Spirit moving within me and so I spoke the word. The next moment, Brother Kenneth Hagin, who was right next to me, said, “Richard, I got the same word about a kidney. I confirm what you just said.”
When God calls you to do something, He will confirm that call to you again and again. God will not whisper something to you in passing and then never discuss it with you again. He will bring people and messages across your path that will reinforce, reiterate, elaborate on, and further explain what it is that He is asking you to do.
Have you ever been on a trip and wondered, after some miles, if you were still on the right road? You know how relieved you feel when you see a sign that tells you that, yes, indeed you are still traveling in the right direction. God periodically gives us His signposts to confirm to us that we are going the right way. Look for them in your life today!
