A “Promise” Focus

Richard RobertsFaith Series – Fifth of six parts

In order to build your faith into strong faith,

Learn to glance at the problem… Then focus on the promise!

If you spend all of your time looking at your problems, you’ll soon feel as if you are losing your mind. If all you see is problem, problem, problem, problem… pretty soon you’ll be overwhelmed by it, controlled by it, motivated by it, and ultimately, destroyed by it.

There’s no need to deny a problem. Problems do exist. But acknowledging the problem and focusing on it are two different things.

If you have a “forget it, there’s no chance” attitude, that’s the way people around you will respond. If you have an “it’s not possible, you can’t do it” attitude, that’s what will happen. Both attitudes are rooted in focusing on the problem. Both lead to dead ends.

Put your focus on the promise of God, instead! There’s an old song that says,

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?

Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?

God specializes in things thought impossible

And He can do what no other man can do.

The Bible says that when Abraham was called by God to go into a new place to receive his inheritance, he “obeyed; and he went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8 NKJV). Abraham didn’t let a lack of understanding stop him from pursuing God’s promise. The problems were all around him―he was traveling “in a strange country, dwelling in tents,” but his focus was on God’s promise: the blessing of God! He was old and so was his wife… long past childbearing age. But his focus was on God’s promise. And the promise came to pass. I encourage you to glance at your problem, give it to God, and focus on Him as your solution.
