How do you develop a relationship with someone? You talk and then you listen. You spend time with one another. And that’s the way it is in our relationship with the heavenly Father. Many times in church we sing the lyrics of the hymn, “In the Garden” that say, “He walks with me, and He talks with me.” Yet the minute we tell people that God has spoken to us, some think we’re super-spiritual even though they just sang that song too!
If God spoke to men and women in Bible days (and the Bible says that He did), then He still speaks today. God declared, “I am the Lord, I change not” (Malachi 3:6). And Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”
One way to keep your communication lines with God clear is to pray in the Spirit (see Ephesians 6:18). Jesus sent the Holy Spirit…the divine Paraclete, the Comforter, the One called alongside to help…to help us communicate with the Father. I call the Holy Spirit God’s divine computer. Why? Because if you need wisdom or revelation, just start praying in the Spirit, and God can give you divine revelation beyond anything you ever thought possible. He can heal your hurts, bind up your wounds, and give you new insight and direction, even in these uncertain times.
God is stable; a rock to stand on. He knows and sees the events that are occurring in this uncertain world today. And He is not worried! The more you communicate with God, the less worried you’ll be, and the closer your relationship will become with Him.
