Faint Not

From the archives of Oral Roberts

In Luke 18 we read a parable of Jesus in which He told about a widow who went before a judge in her city with a request. Now, the Bible says about this judge that he “feared not God, neither regarded man” (Luke 18:2). Nevertheless, this widow came to Him and said, “Avenge me of mine adversary.”

At first, the judge paid no attention to her. But she kept coming again and again, saying, “Avenge me of my adversary.” Finally the judge said, “Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me” (Luke 18:4-5).

Jesus said, “Pay attention to what this judge said. If he, as an unjust man, was willing to answer this widow, how much more will God answer you who cry day and night unto Him?” Furthermore, Jesus said about God our Father, “I tell you that he will avenge speedily” (Luke 18:6-8).

This widow woman refused to give up. She didn’t come just once and make her request. The Bible says she came continually until she got her answer. Sometimes we get tired of praying over and over for some things. But the Bible says that the very reason Jesus told this parable was that we “ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1).

Let’s not faint! Let’s continue to come before God and cry, “Avenge me of mine adversary!”

Do you have an adversary today? Whether a literal one or a need the devil is trying to attack you with, take it to God. And keep taking your need to God until He answers you. Don’t give up!
