How to Get to Heaven

Richard Roberts

If you died tonight, do you know where you would spend eternity? John 3:1–21 gives us insight on how to get to heaven as it tells the story of Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader, and his encounter with Jesus.

Nicodemus knew Jesus was a mighty prophet and teacher. He even told Jesus that no one could do the wondrous things He was doing unless He was sent from God. Jesus’ reply to Nicodemus was that he must be born again.

“What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus explained that He wasn’t talking about a rebirth in the flesh. He was talking about a supernatural birth. “Unless you are born again, you can never see the Kingdom of God,” Jesus told him (v. 3 NLT).

Maybe you’re like Nicodemus. You’ve never been born again. Maybe you know about God, but you don’t know God. You’ve never repented and made a commitment of your life to Jesus. Or maybe you once had a relationship with the Lord, but it has grown cold. If so, now is the time to give your life to Jesus Christ. I’m going to ask you to pray this prayer with me, and if you’ll do it and you’re sincere, your life can be dramatically changed:

O God, be merciful to me a sinner. I’ve missed the mark with my life, and I repent. I turn my back on the past. I renounce the devil and all of his works. By faith, I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Save me, heal me, deliver me, and set me free. From this hour I will serve God with all of my heart, soul, and mind. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
