While Jesus walked the earth, He taught his disciples many things: to love their enemies, to build their lives on a solid foundation, to forgive others, and to do unto others as they would have others do unto them. Those are just a few of His teachings. He also taught about giving when He said, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over…. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you (Luke 6:38 NKJV).”
Jesus was teaching the disciples and His followers the principle of sowing and reaping. If you give a little, you receive a little. If you give a lot, you receive a lot. The apostle Paul summed it up, saying, Don’t be misled. Remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it. You will always reap what you sow! Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time (Galatians 6:7-9 NLT).
Sowing to God is the greatest thing I’ve learned since my salvation and being baptized in the Holy Spirit—giving Him my love, my time, my money, and my prayers. And because of the promises found in His Word, I have a Bible right to expect Him to use my gifts to Him for His glory and then multiply them back to me, covering me with His blessings. We are to give to God so He can give back to us!
