From the archives of Oral Roberts – “Miracles Series” – Fifth of seven parts
Years ago, during an evangelistic crusade we were conducting in a B-29 hangar in Goldsboro, North Carolina, I experienced unusually strong spiritual opposition one night as I began to preach. The great hangar, which seated seven or eight thousand people, was packed out. But I was having a difficult time speaking and praying for the sick. An undercurrent of satanic opposition was stopping the flow of God’s healing and saving power. Oh, a few had come forward for salvation ― a few were being healed ― but not enough!
As I looked down the prayer line, I saw a little boy on crutches. Suddenly faith leaped in my heart. Somehow I knew this child would be healed. I learned he had Perthes’ disease ― a flattening of the hip bone. One leg had a strap around it and the strap came up around his neck.
When I touched that boy in the Name of Jesus, I felt the current of the Holy Spirit move out through my arm and hand in a way I’d come to recognize over the years, and I knew that the boy had been healed instantly. He knew it, too. He didn’t walk down the ramp ― he ran! And he kept running, all the way down the aisle. Suddenly, the crowd leaped to their feet. I saw men take off their hats and throw them into the air. I heard people weeping all over the audience. That miracle was the turning point for the entire crusade. News of it spread through the entire city, and the following night more than 800 people accepted Christ at the close of my message.
A miracle of God closes the door on the devil. What the devil means for harm, the Lord can turn to good! It’s a victory moment ― God and His people win! The devil is put on the run.
