Standing on the Word

Lindsay Roberts

I remember driving past a billboard once that said, “Isn’t it funny that people believe television but question the Bible?” I thought… That sign is pretty catchy. But it’s more than that.

The Word of God is true. The entirety of Your word is truth (Psalm 119:160 NKJV). It is powerful: The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV). Jesus was the Word clothed in flesh: The Word [Christ] became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14 NKJV). God spoke the world into existence with His Word: Then God said… (Genesis 1:3-31 NKJV).

At the time I saw the billboard, I was frustrated by a situation I was facing. I couldn’t seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A friend kept saying, “Lindsay, you’ve got to stand on the Word of God.” So one day, in total frustration, I put the Bible on the floor and literally stood on it. I cried out, “God, I am standing on Your Word, and I am not going to be moved until I hear from You!”

As I stood there, I realized I was standing on the most powerful force on the face of the earth―the Word of God. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away (Matthew 24:35 NKJV).” My faith began to rise up, and I knew that if I believed God’s Word, something was going to happen. And He brought healing to my situation.

Literally standing on the Word of God may seem extreme to some, but it helped me realize that, according to the Word of God, there is no area of our lives that is beyond hope.
