Take Your Dream Off of the Shelf

Richard Roberts

Do you have a dream that needs to be resurrected? Years ago when my father was preaching a crusade in Seattle, Washington, a man by the name of William Skrinde was in the audience. He had failed in business and was working for only 75 cents an hour in a nursing home. He was 66 years old and his future looked bleak. But during the crusade he received Christ.

One night my father explained the concept of Seed Faith, and it opened up Mr. Skrinde’s eyes to giving out of a heart of love and with expectancy. But he had little to give. My father said, “There are those of you listening to my voice who have invented or created something, and you’ve laid it on the shelf. Perhaps it’s even in your attic. Look around. See what God has given you.”

The Holy Spirit inspired Mr. Skrinde to go up into his attic, where he found the plans he had drawn up years before for a part for four-wheel-drive vehicles. He felt led to try one more time to sell the product. This time the company bought it, and Mr. Skrinde became a wealthy man. He was a great supporter of our ministry until the day he died at age 92. He described the change in his life this way: “Right at the time I should have retired, I got ‘refired!’”

Does your dream need to be revived? Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. Maybe it’s time for you to go to your “attic,” take your dream off the shelf, and see what God can do through you.
