The ‘Little Thing’ Test

Lindsay Roberts

Late one night after hosting The Place for Miracles, Richard called me from the studio. Our kids had had a special event at our house, so I had stayed home with them.

“The Lord just spoke the strangest thing to me,” Richard said, “I’m to do something, but I don’t want to do it by myself. I want you to go with me.” I had no idea if he was talking about a late-night trip to the convenience store or jumping off the moon!

“I’m supposed to go up to the office and sign 50 Bibles,” he said. Well, that seemed kind of strange. I could understand God speaking to him about going to the ends of the earth to minister, but going to the office to sign Bibles late at night?

We went to Richard’s office and signed the Bibles. On the way home, I had to ask, “Richard, why do you think the Lord told you to do that?”

“Oh, it’s real simple,” Richard replied. “I think it was a test. God knows I’ll obey Him and do the big things, but I think He was testing me to see if I’d listen to Him and do the little things.”

God needs to know if He can trust us with doing the little things He asks, because if we won’t do the little things, how can He trust us to do the big things? God said in Jeremiah 7:23 NIV, “Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways I command you, that it may go well with you.”

Obedience is the key. No matter what God calls you to do, be it large or small, obey Him. Then He can begin to bless you abundantly!
