Nebuchadnezzar was enraged when word came to him that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to his golden image. He said, “Bring them to me” and when they came, he said, “Boys, I’m going to give you one more chance.”
These three young Hebrews then stood before the king and boldly declared, “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us!” (See Daniel 3:17.)
Can you hear their hearts cry? God is our Source! God is our Savior! God is our Strength! God is our Provider! They had a rock-bottom, shoulders-back, head-held-high, no-compromise faith. They may not have been aware of it in the moment, but that great declaration was their first blow against the devil for their deliverance!
When the devil comes at you with a roar and threatens to wipe you out, say back to him with your shoulders squared and faith in your eyes, “Devil, my God is able to deliver me from you!”
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego then made a second declaration of their faith ― a second blow for their deliverance, “But if not [in other words, even if we die] we will not bow.” (See Daniel 3:18.)
In the Book of Revelation, we read about those who are standing in heaven, having overcome the devil. John tells us how they did it. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death” (Revelation 12:11).
That second great statement of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego was not just a string of words but the “courage of faith in words!”
Don’t just speak a word of faith today to the devil. Plant your feet in those words and decide within yourself that you will refuse to be moved… no matter what!
