Think of going out on a mission for God by yourself, or as a member of a small band. Then remember that the work of making the first Christmas a reality was accomplished by a few individuals and a few small groups. Suddenly, the magnitude and significance of their task becomes clear.
Each of the workers of Christmas performed a lonely and thankless task. Why did they do it? I think they felt in their hearts that they were supposed to be a part of this great event.
God speaks to the hearts of people. They feel the moving of the Holy Spirit. And the wiser ones obey God and step out upon a mission of helpfulness to God and mankind.
The workers felt that the birth of Christ was of supreme importance. Nothing else mattered to them in comparison to this event. Christ was revered and exalted in their minds. They felt that He was greater than what they had been doing. Their own personal plans were small in the light of God’s great plan for the birth of His Son who would be the Savior of the world. These people felt that they had to stop and lay aside all other things and become one of the great workers of the first Christmas. They felt that it was one of the most important things in the world to them, that they were supposed to be a part of it.
And, oh, what a wonderful event they were a part of!
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! —2 Corinthians 9:15
