When tragedy, adversity, and trials come into your life, you have to have God’s Word in your heart. The Bible says to hide the Word in your heart. If you have hidden the Word in your heart, when a struggle comes, the Holy Spirit will bring the Scripture to your mind.
The Holy Spirit helped me so very much when we lost our daughter Rebecca. The fourth night after she died, I said to Oral, “Honey, hold me on your lap and pray for me. I just can’t make it through tonight.” And he said. “Well, let’s pray.” We prayed in the Spirit, and the interpretation came, “You’ve got to plant a seed of faith to get out of this grief.”
You know, when you’re hurting, you don’t think about anybody else hurting. But there are so many others experiencing the same hurt. So Oral and I made a television program and shared our loss, our hurt. Through that program, the Holy Spirit helped us to lose part of our grief.
However, you never get to the place where it doesn’t hurt you. If I hear Ronnie’s or Rebecca’s names, I feel a pang in my heart. You never get away from that. I would say the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit are the greatest gifts to have when you face a struggle of any kind.
When we had a painful family problem not too many years ago, and it hurt badly, I asked the Lord, “I’ve had enough hurts in my life. So put a shield of faith around me, and don’t let me feel this hurt.”
Father, I’m thinking about all mothers – mothers of tiny babies, mothers of children growing up, mothers of teenagers, and mothers of older children. There have been many hurts in their lives, just as there have been in my life. Lord, I know by Your Holy Spirit that You can deaden the feelings of hurt and, by Your Holy Spirit, please surround them with a shield of faith to protect them.
Place Your shield of faith and Your protecting power around the children who leave their homes for school or for work today. Give us the Word of God that will help us to overcome the struggles that come in our lives because we know, Lord, that You are bigger than any problem we have. We just give it all to You, knowing that You hear us and that You will answer prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
